A toothache is pain that occurs in or around the tooth, and may be accompanied by dull, sharp, or throbbing pain. If you have severe pain, drainage coming from the tooth, an earache, or a fever, you should consult with your doctor right away, especially if the pain lasts for more than two days. These symptoms could point to a severe infection that will only get worse if left untreated.
However, a more mild toothache may be caused by chewing gum or even grinding your teeth in your sleep. If the ache doesn’t seem to be that serious, this simple hack could help. Kelly Bagnasco took to Facebook to share a toothache relief tip that her friend shared. She suggests dipping a Q-tip into NyQuil and dabbing it on the tooth in question. Supposedly, this can bring about immediate relief.
If you’re looking for a natural toothache remedy, many people suggest using a cold compress, salt water rinse, steeped peppermint tea bags, and even crushed garlic. All of these remedies are meant to reduce swelling and in turn pain, and to draw out infection. However, it’s important to remember that if your tooth pain doesn’t seem to be getting any better, you should consult with your doctor or dentist right away.
