When it comes to cleaning tasks that are both dreaded and incredibly important, toilet cleaning is at the top of the list. No one wants to deal with the toilet bowl, and everyone wants to get in and out as quickly as possible. The trick is to do the latter while cleaning efficiently, and luckily for anyone struggling to find that balance, the experts at Clean My Space are here to help. Check out how Melissa does it and compare it to your own routine.

Melissa uses only a few basic products to clean her toilet, products you probably already have at home. If you don’t, they’re readily available at most stores. Best of all, it only takes her three minutes to get her bowl sparkling clean, which is simply amazing (if you don’t believe us, she timed her routine below for posterity).

To successfully complete the three-minute toilet bowl cleaning, here’s what you’ll need:

Materials

  • Rubber gloves
  • Toothbrush
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Toilet bowl brush
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Paper towels

Step 1: Spray your all-purpose cleaner on your toilet from top to bottom.
Step 2: Put the toilet bowl cleaner under the rim of the toilet bowl only.
Step 3: Use paper towel to wipe down the wet toilet, again from top to bottom. Change out the towels often, keeping track of points of contact.
Step 4: Use the toothbrush to scrub hard to reach areas.
Step 5: After letting the toilet bowl cleaner sit while you wipe the rest of the toilet down, use the toilet brush to clean the inside of the bowl.
Step 6: Flush, holding your brush in the stream to clean it off.
Step 7: Let the brush dry by leaving it to drip-dry under the toilet lid for a minute.

There you have it folks, a speed cleaning to aim for. A sparkling toilet in three minutes.

Like we said, a toilet-cleaning routine that leaves both a clean, germ-free bathroom and that can be done in just three minutes is the DREAM. We’d be willing to bet that by adopting Melissa’s routine, you could shave some minutes (maybe a lot of minutes?) off your time in the bathroom. And the less time you can spend bent over your toilet bowl is time well spent, right? Right.

To avoid cross-contamination, make sure you have two pairs of rubber cleaning gloves. Melissa has a blue pair for the kitchen and a white pair for the bathroom. The same goes for your cleaning toothbrush – do not use the same one for the WHOLE house! Make sure to get a separate cleaning brush for the bathroom, or even specifically for your toilet.

For the same reason, paper towels work better for this job than rags do. No matter how thoroughly you cleaned those rags after, you still initially used them to clean your toilet…which is just super gross. So we’re going to encourage you to go for paper towels for this job. Better safe than sorry.

Did you try this three minutes routine and did you do it all in time?
